Isn’t April wonderful? In my family-of-origin, we have several birthdays in April, so it’s always a time for celebrating! And now that I’m grown and living in the Midwest, April is also the time when we start to hope that maybe, maybe we’ve seen the last of the snow for this year. (Alas, sometimes those hopes are dashed.)
But this year, April is extra-special. Raining romance books? I can’t think of anything better! Plus, Outlander has just started again. I’ve been waiting for the second half of the season since last fall, so I’m very excited!
To celebrate both romance books and the Scottishness of Outlander, I’m offering you an excerpt from my short story Her Kilted Wolf. And even better, this book is free on all stores, so if you like the excerpt, you can read the rest!
What do you like about April? 🙂 Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to enter my giveaway for an ebook copy of my Stonewall Pack Alpha boxed set.

Excerpt from Her Kilted Wolf
Mattie followed the scent out of the room and into the hallway. The scent trail seemed fresh, and yet her mate wasn’t there. Maybe he had already left before she got there?
She continued to follow the scent. When she got to the second turn, she knew she’d never find her way back without help, so she pulled out her cell phone and took video of each of the twists and turns. Hopefully, she’d find her mate at the end of this journey and he could lead her back to the Great Hall, but if not, she’d need the footage.
Darius would wonder where she’d gone, but he’d understand once she explained. Finding your mate was everything.
Who would he be? A wolf, hopefully. But if he was a wolf, why hadn’t he scented her?
Mattie jogged up some stone stairs, still following the delicious smell. With just the scent in her nose, she already felt like melting. She wanted to find her mate and drag him to the nearest bed where they could wallow in each other until their scents were so mixed no one could tell them apart.
What if he wasn’t a wolf? Other species didn’t necessarily know when they’d found their mates. Sometimes they had to be convinced, and it wasn’t always a fun experience.
The scent trail suddenly dead-ended at a tall wooden door, the fifth such door on that hall. Worse, the door was closed. What should she do? Should she knock? She shifted from one foot to the other, trying to decide what to do.
The door in front of her jerked open and a tall, half-naked male stood in front of her, a towel tied around his waist and his wet hair sticking up. “You came.” He grinned, his blue eyes lighting up.
Before she could say anything, he grabbed her around the waist and yanked her against him, covering her mouth with his.
Oh, mama.

Okay, your question asks what we like about April in particular. I love April (or at least earlier parts of it) because in Seattle, we start to have more sunny days again. And, most days are in the 50s. To walk around outside with the sunshine, my kind of perfect temperatures, and a slight breeze blowing…heaven 🙂 Plus, pretty things start blooming. I’ve not developed any allergies out here yet (docs told me it’d take a few years before they’d start kicking in after I moved cross country), so I can enjoy all the pretty things without sneezing. If only April involved tree leaves coming back in the pretty autumn colors, it’d be perfect 🙂
thanks for the chance!
April here in England mostly means rain, lots and lots of rain. But between the showers I can get to work in the garden with some lovely spring flowers around.
I love many things about April. The weather, Easter, Lilacs and I have a couple birthdays to celebrate, one being my cousins today 🙂
Thanks for the giveaway!
